Black and White Ball February 2015
Village Day 2014
All The Fun Of The Fair!
The afternoon got off to a magnificent start with David Greenway, Town Crier of Glastonbury, proclaiming the start of the show. He certainly had everyone's attention as his bell rang out across the field and he announced the entertainment whilst sporting full regalia.
The dogs took centre stage with all shapes and sizes competing for a coveted rosette in the show. Dogs and their owners also had the opportunity to take part in a new activity; dog rally. There was plenty of fun for children of all ages and those young at heart.
Fuse Performance provided a variety of circus equipment to play with, available free of charge thanks to a grant from South Somerset District Council.
Somerton Fire Brigade showed off their engine and children had the chance to climb aboard and also play in the biggest sprinkler ever as the hoses were turned on.
Many other fun games and stalls were provided by the Charltons' wide variety of active groups. Myfavourite was the water pistol tin can alley in the children's tent.
The classic car display spanned the decades, so whether you're into a vintage Rolls or a retro Cortina there was something to be admired by everyone. Thank you to all those that showed off their lovingly polished motors.
As always, food and drink was an important part of the day with cakes, ice cream and hog roast going down a treat, all washed down with a choice beverage. Steve and Susanne's BBQ proved a hit, including their speciality veggie pitta which was a sell out.
Charlton Adam managed to retain the tug ofwartropy after winning the men's and women's challenges in 2 pulls each. The Charlton Mackrell children showed their parents how it's done, winning the children's challenge.
A MASSIVE thank you to everybody who contributed to Village Day in any way and made it a great success. It couldn't happen without you! As it stands, we have raised a fantastic £2500 for the Community Hall and Playing Field. I hope that you will all take up your posts again next year, as I pass the baton over to Susanne Hackett - if the BBQ is anything to goby you'll do a great job.
